Weirton, West Virginia sits along the Ohio River in the Northern Panhandle—a region defined by its steel heritage. For generations, the people of Weirton built their lives around the mill. Weirton Steel was once one of the largest independent steel producers in America and the town's economic backbone. When the steel industry contracted and the mill eventually closed, Weirton lost more than jobs. It lost an identity.

From Fabrication Shop to National Manufacturer

More than 22 years ago, Bulldog Rack started as a small fabrication operation in Weirton. The mission was straightforward: manufacture high-quality pallet racking and storage systems right here in the U.S., using the deep steelworking talent that the region was known for.

In those early years, the company focused on conventional selective pallet racking—learning the craft, building relationships with distributors and end users, and earning a reputation for delivering solid product on time. Every weld, every upright, every beam was produced by people who understood steel because they grew up around it.

As the business grew, so did the ambition. Bulldog expanded into structural racking, drive-in systems, push-back, pallet flow, cantilever, and eventually the high-precision Hi-Line systems required for automated storage and retrieval. Each product line was developed in-house, manufactured at our Weirton facility, and backed by a team that takes personal pride in what ships out the door.

The Leap into Automation

The warehouse industry was changing. Labor shortages, rising costs, and the demand for higher throughput meant that conventional racking alone was no longer enough. Operators needed systems that could move pallets autonomously—and Bulldog recognized the opportunity early.

We formed a strategic alliance with Robogroup to bring four-directional shuttle technology to North America. This wasn't just adding a product to a catalog.
